National Urban Design Forum 2007 - 29 April to 1 May
The Contested Coast - Australia's water wars, sustainability and survival in the wide, brown land_
Go West for the 2007 National Urban Design Forum to be held 29 April - 1 May 2007 on the waterfront in the rapidly growing coastal
city of Mandurah, about 50 kilometres south of Perth.
In this 20th year of the Urban Design Forum, issues on water and waterfronts will be explored through the topic of the contested coast - the fragile edge of this ecologically sensitive continent. The conference will examine many challenges and opportunities of water and waterfronts that we face in our downtowns, the issues of ports and resorts and how this global battle can be fought by each of us in our own front yard. The main conference in Mandurah will be prefaced by a tour of discovery and discussion of current waterfront developments and award winning, water sensitive projects on the Swan River in the heart of Perth. The journey between Mandurah and the City will also provide opportunities to see some of the major initiatives on the coast such as the recently constructed desalination plant, the Australian Marine Complex and developments at Fremantle harbour. For more information and to register your interest for the conference contact Claire Molyneux of the Urban Design Centre by email cmolyneux@udcwa.org or by phone (08) 9440 2400.
