The Plaza Of Fire And Light installation by Bill Kelly was created as an urban artwork to commemorate the bombing of 26 April,1937, an event well known in the art world as the subject of Picasso's most famous painting 'Guernica’. A short documentary has been produced to commemorate the 70th Anniversary of the bombing includes historical images, images of the rebuilt Gernika, interviews with survivors and others as it traces the evolution of this artwork and the journey of Kelly from his first encounter with 'Guernica' in New York's Museum of Modern Art, to Australia where he now lives, and his extraordinary association with Gernika itself. Kelly's installation, widely covered in Spanish and Basque media, has been referred to as a moving tribute and that, "after the 'Guernica' of Picasso, it is the next most important visual symbol of the anniversary of the bombing.
